Weekly Report

 Weekly Reflection

We arrived last Sunday remarkably unaware of what the week ahead had in store for us. When communicating with Jordan, we talked about doing film work and smaller, more tedious tasks like cleaning rods or the boat; however, we’ve done so much more. On the first day, we met Jordan early and were treated to a morning of fishing. He introduced us all to a new form of fishing called slow-pitch jigging. We practiced slow-pitch jigging by putting our hands next to the reel and our elbows on the opposite side of the rod for support, then we pulled the line up and let it flutter down in a similar motion to fly fishing. The fishing was slow, but we ultimately caught three king mackerel. After fishing, we went to home depot with Jordan to gather the supplies to build concrete ramps and move water and electrical closer to the boat. We dug an area for the ramps and set concrete, with dirt evenly surrounding it, and steel pieces to provide support. It was enjoyable and valuable work to learn. On our second day, we learned how to make concrete and poured it into the boat ramps we had set the day before. For day three, we took apart Jordan’s ex-wife’s deck and used the wood to make a deck by Jordan's boat. Afterward, we took a break and set up jigs with Jordan before he treated us to Mexican food for dinner. We had a great time fishing on day four, Mark and I both caught small blackfin tuna, and Jordan caught a medium fish. When we finished, Jordan had us clean the boat before he showed us how to filet and cook the tuna. On day five, we used the wood from his ex-wife's deck to build a 6x8 foot deck right by his boat platform. We used the piping from home depot on day one to move the water and electrical closer to the boat. We learned how to use plumber's glue and primer to make a secure piping system. We fished again today, going after Mahi, though we only caught one because we determined it was too early in the season. On Sunday, Mark and Jackson thoroughly cleaned the rods as I helped Jordan replace the faucet in his kitchen. Watching it was interesting, and I learned a lot about basic plumbing. This week was very productive; we helped Jordan with many projects around the house, especially projects related to the boat, and in return, we went out on four fishing trips and learned a tremendous amount about fishing and basic construction.
